Let’s get Hinge
on your Mac.

Download the DMG.

Complete checkout, then return to this page and click Download DMG. You’ll find Hinge.dmg in your Downloads folder. If your browser asks where to save it, choose Downloads.

Keep this browser’s cookies so you can return to your download page. If you close the payment tab, reopen that page in the same browser to check your purchase.

Move Hinge to Applications.

Double-click Hinge.dmg. In the window that opens, drag Hinge onto the Applications folder. Then open Applications and double-click Hinge. If macOS blocks it, dismiss the alert and continue below.

Approve the first launch.

Hinge isn’t signed with an Apple Developer ID yet, so macOS shows three prompts the first time. Here is exactly what to click:

   “Hinge” Not Opened

   Apple could not verify “Hinge” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.

   DoneMove to Bin

   Click Done. Not “Move to Bin”.

2. 2 · System Settings → Privacy & Security
   Security

   Allow applications fromApp Store & Known Developers ⌃

   “Hinge” was blocked to protect your Mac.Open Anyway

   Apple could not verify “Hinge” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.

   Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, click Open Anyway.

3. 3 · One last prompt
   Open “Hinge”?

   Apple is not able to verify that it is free from malware that could harm your Mac or compromise your privacy. Don’t open this unless you are certain it is from a trustworthy source.

   Move to BinOpen AnywayDone

   Click Open Anyway, enter your password or Touch ID, then Open.

This creates an exception for Hinge only. Don’t turn off Gatekeeper or remove quarantine in Terminal. If macOS says the app is damaged or will harm your computer, stop instead of overriding that warning. Apple’s instructions

Let Hinge show the effect.

In Hinge, click Allow access. In System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, enable Hinge. On some macOS versions this is called Screen Recording. Quit and reopen Hinge if macOS asks, or use Hinge’s Relaunch button.

Enable the effect, then lower your MacBook lid. Your desktop should tilt as it closes and return as it opens.

This permission is separate from Open Anyway. Hinge uses desktop frames for the visual effect; it doesn’t capture audio, save screen recordings, or upload your desktop.
