Terms
These terms cover buying Hinge on this website and using the Hinge app. By buying or using Hinge you agree to them. Hinge is sold by [your legal or business name] (“we”, “us”).
What you are buying
Hinge is a menu-bar app for Apple silicon MacBooks running macOS 14 or later. It uses the built-in lid-angle sensor to tilt, blur and shade your desktop as the lid closes. It is a one-time purchase at the price shown at checkout, with no subscription.
Your purchase gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to install and use Hinge on Macs that you own or control. You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app or the download, or work around the checks that deliver it. Hinge includes open-source code from Mac Duo under the Apache License 2.0; that notice ships inside the app.
Before you buy
- Hinge needs macOS 14 or later, an Apple silicon MacBook, and a compatible built-in lid-angle sensor. Not every Mac exposes this sensor, and external displays are not animated. The interactive demo on this site shows the effect but is not proof your Mac is supported.
- This early version is not Developer ID signed or notarized by Apple. macOS will block its first launch until you approve Hinge with Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security. The installation guide explains this. Please read it before paying. A Mac managed by a school or employer may not allow this.
- The desktop effect needs the macOS Screen Recording permission. Hinge does not record, save or upload anything; see the privacy policy.
Payment and delivery
Payment is taken by Stripe on a page it hosts. When Stripe confirms the payment, the download page unlocks in the browser you paid from. Keep that browser’s cookies to download again later. If you cannot download, for example after clearing cookies or switching devices, email hello@tryhinge.com with your Stripe receipt and we will get the file to you. Prices are shown in US dollars and may include tax where required.
All sales are final
Hinge is software delivered as a download immediately after payment, so we do not offer refunds, including for change of mind, for a Mac that turns out to be unsupported, or because of the Open Anyway step described above. Please check the requirements and the installation guide before you buy. By ticking the agreement at checkout you ask for immediate delivery and acknowledge that any statutory cooling-off or withdrawal right for digital content ends once the download is made available.
If the download itself cannot be delivered to you and we cannot fix that, we will refund you. Nothing here excludes rights you have under consumer law, including the Australian Consumer Law, that cannot be excluded; where those rights apply, the remedy is the one the law provides. A payment that is refunded, reversed or disputed no longer has download access.
Updates and support
There is no automatic updater in this version. We may publish updated builds and make them available to existing buyers, but we do not promise particular features, dates or a signed and notarized release. Support is by email and on a reasonable-efforts basis. The installation guide and the troubleshooting guide inside the app cover the common problems.
No warranty and limits on liability
Hinge is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranty that it will be error-free or work on every Mac, and our total liability for anything arising from your purchase or use of Hinge is limited to the amount you paid for it. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Where consumer law gives you guarantees that cannot be excluded, our liability is limited, where permitted, to supplying the software again or refunding it.
Changes and general
We may update these terms for future purchases; the version in force when you buy applies to that purchase. These terms are governed by the law of [your state or country], and disputes go to the courts there, without affecting your consumer rights elsewhere. If part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
